A quick 1hr follow up on the ME situation - Iraq, Iran, Egypt,
Lebanon, etc, but in particularly Syria from a man who was "invited
to Syria by the Great Patriarch of the Christian church" - freedom of
speech, and freedom of religion, from the (Syrian) Islamic world ftw!

  And you have one of the oldest standing Christian churches on the
planet that's been operating in Syria since 100 years after the time
of Jesus Christ. Many of them are the same descendants, of many of
the early Christians.
  The Gentiles accepted Christianity, the Jews wholesalely rejected
it, and the New Testament has a lot about the persecutions of
Christians in fact by the Jews.
  And in that country the Christians respect Assad - he has defended
their rights, there interests and their heritage, and the Sunnis who
are there, and they have Sunni and Shiite as well, but they have
Sunnis as well which is probably the biggest Muslim sect that exists
in Syria has been very supportive of Assad, so he supported the
Sunnis, and the Sunni leader, in fact the Grand Mufti of the Sunni
faith in Syria, is actually a very very moderate Muslim. He's not
what you call a ‘radical Muslim extremist’, in fact he actually has
made public statements (you can look this up on Wikipedia, I'm not
just making this up) he's actually made public statements that he
opposes Shariah law.
  Now this is the leading Sunni cleric in the country but he opposes
Sharia law. You have Sharya law in places like Saudi Arabia, and
Sharia law obviously is practiced by ISIS. It's a very draconian law
that basically takes away the rights and freedoms of anybody else.
  In fact he [Syria's Grand Mufti] has made public statements saying
that he believed in complete freedom of speech and freedom of
religion, and he said 'the truth is how do you even know if your
religion is right if you don't have the right to hear another point
of view'.  And he believes in his particular brand of Islam, and he's
not afraid for debate on these subjects and discussion and he says
that when you don't have freedom of speech it lessens the ability of
people to make good decisions.
