This thread illustrates my point.  CPunks has a whole ecosystem.

One might see some interesting political content, somewhat informed
commentary on how State policy interacts with network security IRL,
even (when the stars come 'round right and eldrich horrors stalk the
night) a proper argument or two.  But bring hiking boots, binoculars
and a compass.
