The only way this list can get "bona fide discussions of cryptography,
its role in the modern economy, finance and politics, etc." is if
people start posting relevant information, announcements, links to
resources, etc.

CPunks now provides a pass/fail course in how to communicate in an
environment flooded with spurious signals, spoofing and straight up
noise.  Subscribe and attempt to have useful conversations, if you are
up for an audit and upgrade of your capabilities in these areas.

Or just go to the Cryptography list, which covers the more technical
items among the topical interests you list above.
