Indeed it could be seen as retaliation - an enticing if impossible to
prove proposition - Germany's leader finally suggests alternative
approaches required to handle Syrian refugees 'and Assad' and the
situation in Ukraine, and US firing back:

Perhaps USG has some control dirt on Merkel? Perhaps the Bundestag is
not independent, or perhaps we're not getting the full story?
