| OpenOffice? I send people doc and xls files all the time, nobody's complained

Openoffice doesn't yet handle tables, or other complex document bits
very well.  It also can't create powerpoint files well.  Its great if
what you need is either simple, or read-mostly.  50 page documents
with embedded spreadsheets, not there yet.
