Sunday's schedule (as it applies to the CC) would look similar to below: 9a -12p - GFSG F2F 12p-2p - Community Council F2F (working lunch) 2:00p - GFSG re-adjourn with 30 minute council reports outlining their 3-month plans (in addition to other GFSG business). This being said, please let me know if you will be available mid-day Sunday (I want to be sure the majority of the council members have arrived by that time). Discussion topics for the Community Council mid-day meeting will include: *GGF-14 Community Track Program (proposed 1 solid community track and 1 solid workshop), *Review of Community Objectives & Measures (see attached) - determine plan/action for each deliverable, *GGF-15 Community Track Program (integration with GGF-15 PC, workshops, etc.). If it is determined that additional meeting time is required, I will seek out additional meeting space on-site for later in the week. In the meantime, your advance comments, thoughts, ideas, etc., on the issues above in preparation for our meeting are welcome. But with all of the structural changes in GGF it seems reasonable to me that we consider a late proposal. Sebastien Goasguen (sebgoa at purdue.edu), Dennis Gannon (gannon at cs.indiana.edu) and Nancy Wilkins-Diehr (wilkinsn at sdsc.edu) have been running an intense set of interviews of TeraGrid science gateway projects over the past month. Working with a small team of folks from multiple institutions they are planning to have a draft report at the end of this month. The report is largely going to be an analysis of common requirements for portal access to grid resources (but it is a bit more broad than that). During the first week of April there is a TeraGrid internal All-Hands meeting at which this team will hold discussions with a much larger group of people, including individuals from the 10 or so projects that they interviewed individually. I would like to propose an all-day workshop at GGF-14 where this same team brings together the groups that they have been talking to as well as others who are working on putting grid resources "behind" portals. The objective would be to explore further the notion of a common approach to allowing interactions between portals and grid resources. The goal of such a common approach would be that a science team that develops a portal for their community could readily "plug in" resources from multiple Grids at the back end of their portal. I would like to have this team begin to plan such a workshop, ideally holding some planning sessions during the first week of April while they are together at the TeraGrid all-hands meeting. In addition, I would like to ask the GGF steering group folks who are plugged into the relevant communities to suggest others who this group ought to be talking with about this workshop. For instance, I know the eScience programme in the UK has some work in this area and I suspect that there is similar work happening in Japan. Something that I would like clarification on is the GGF-14 process for handling workshop submissions from other Research Groups. Amidst this transitional phase, it is important that we inform the RG Chairs/GFSG of our plans as soon as possible. In Geoffrey's absence, I will be reporting the community council activities on next week's GFSG call and if possible, I would like to have a proposal for GFSG discussion before then. Should we use the GROC model for GGF14? Your insight is greatly appreciated. According to my notes from our face-to-face, below are the Community Council's short-term actions: *Act as GGF-14 Program Committee with the goal of exposing the applications community to grid solutions, specifically: -Create a set of rooms (or, 2 one-day academic tracks), -Recruit groups (software providers?) for a 'SUPER WORKSHOP' track by a) reviewing where we are with RGs, b) identify candidate areas, c) hope that they pan-out for GGF-14. *DAVE, CHARLIE, SATOSHI, CRAIG are prepared this week to begin looking at this track concept for GGF14 with Julie providing support where needed. *By Early June: Area leaders write a community charter doc for their area. *By Late June: GCF compile charter docs to formulate into GGF Participation Guide for GGF14. More comprehensive notes to follow (Geoffrey and I are currently iterating them) but I just wanted to be sure that you had the near-term portion. In other news, on Tuesday's GFSG call, there was discussion of an events committee telecon (involving Mark, Geoffrey, Malcolm, Steve and Ann). I do not believe this has happened yet but I expect the community council's role in GGF-14 and GGF-15 programs to become more defined in the near future. Note that the CENDI Group exchanges ideas and information covering a broad range of themes from policy to standards to technologies that impact or have the potential of impacting federal STI systems. If we had a community track, the GridIR and Portal activities would be very relevant. I will certainly encourage them to get involved with GGF and I realize it would be useful if for each GGF meeting, we identified activities that could be interesting to each of a set of communities we support. We also could collect talks such as the one I will give and list those of interest to each community. -- : : Geoffrey Fox gcf at indiana.edu FAX 8128567972 http://www.infomall.org : Phones Cell 812-219-4643 Home 8123239196 Lab 8128567977
