I'm sure there are other metrics/questions that could be applied. --Craig Community Track Evaluation and Strategic Planning How do we evaluate the community tracks we have organized at any particular GGF? Evaluation of Individual Community Track Session: How many people showed up? Was there good discussion? Did the speakers feel their talk was well-received? Did the speaker feel that giving the talk was useful? (Did they feel that whatever expectations they may have had were met?) Would the speakers attend another GGF? Analysis and Insight for Individual Community Track Session: What were the main themes voiced in the session as a whole? For the session topic/industry area, what are the main concerns wrt distributed computing requirements. For these main concerns, what did the session nail head-on? What did the session miss completely? What new action items for future work were identified? Analysis, Interpretation and Insight across all Community Track Sessions: What were the common themes voiced across sessions? What type of new synergies among groups were identified and spun-up? Was there overlap in people and organizations across any of the sessions? ==> Need a pow-wow after all the community sessions to compare notes and see what worked/didn't work. Strategic Action Items for Subsequent GGFs: If any "hot button" common themes emerged across sessions, target those next time. If any topics were glaringly missing, target those next time. If any common themes/synergies across groups emerged, target those next time. If any sessions did really well, do it again next time. ==> Need to summarize these conclusions and present them as part of the Closing Plenary as plans for future GGFs. I'm personally in favor of using "telecom", e.g., telecom-cg, since telco, being derived from "telephone company" sounds archaic. 2) Doesn't Telecom-CG have a GridForge project yet so we can add the link for the website update? --Craig At 11:52 AM 6/20/2005, Julie Wulf-Knoerzer wrote: >Hi all, >Attached, please find a rough draft of the Community Area handouts for >GGF14 (we'll be cleaning up the formatting and making consistent with the >standards handouts). Apologies for the short notice, but I would like your feedback on the attached Call for Community Participation for GGF15/GridWorld as soon as possible. This contains all community program activities (talks, panels, workshops, tutorials - let me know if I may have missed any). During our GFSG council breakout next week, I would like to briefly discuss selection process in preparation for the Event Steering Committee Meeting that Geoffrey and I will attend on Monday morning. Thank you in advance for the quick turnaround and safe travels to Chicago. Julie +++++++++++++++++++ Julie Wulf-Knoerzer Manager of Community Development Global Grid Forum wulf at ggf.org ph. 630/252-7163 fax 630/252-4466 -------------- next part -------------- Call for Community Track Participation GridWorld / GGF15 October 3-6, 2005 Boston, Massachusetts USA The Community Track Sessions at GridWorld will offer a series of 30-90 minute invited talks and panels on the current and future status of Grids in different sectors of education, research (e.g., Astronomy) and industry (e.g, Telecommunications), as well as half and full-day research workshops and tutorials. This "community track" seeks to build new and strengthen existing communities of interest in GGF. Both new and existing communities are encouraged to submit abstracts for presentation in these community track sessions. GridWorld attendees will gain unique insights from applications and technology experts discussing innovative approaches to deploying and using grids. The community activities described below may run in parallel with other GridWorld activities but every attempt will be made in scheduling to minimize unnecessary clashes. Individual Sessions-- Presentation proposals may be submitted for individual time slots of thirty minutes, one hour or ninety minutes in length. Please be sure to allow ten minutes for Q&A within this allotted time. Individual presentations of less than ninety minutes will be grouped with similar topic presentations to fill an entire session. The submission must state the preferred duration of the presentation. Panels-- These sessions will enable conference attendees to learn from a group of experts on a particular topic. The session organizer may deliver an opening talk to set the context for the remainder of the session. Panelists will then give presentations designed to stimulate audience participation, on their preferably diverse opinions, experiences or expertise regarding the theme of the session. At least ten minutes should be reserved at the end for questions from the audience. Community Workshops-- Proposals may be submitted for half- or full-day topical workshops to foster research in different research areas or projects of interest to GGF. Workshops can be grouped in any of the following ways: -Invited Presentations Workshop: A series of invited talks focused on a specific theme. Speakers in Invited Presentation workshops are encouraged to prepare a paper, which will be controlled by the respective workshop committee and published as a GGF informational document. -Refereed Workshop: A series of papers on a focused theme of interest to GGF. Selected contributions would be presented at the workshop and the proceedings would be published under the GGF banner, as a GGF document or some other. Special Issues of Journals will be considered as a venue for the publication. -Common Interest Workshop: A focused study of a particular problem by a group of GridWorld participants. The outcome of the workshop would be published as a special report to GGF as part of the standard document series. The group that proposes such a workshop would be responsible for delivery of the document before February, 2006. Tutorials-- GridWorld will offer hands-on learning experiences for an audience that ranges from novices to managers to experts. Priority will be given to tutorials that are of interest to the larger Grid community and are consistent with the GridWorld theme of Grid exploration and adoption. Submission Guidelines: All submissions should be sent to communities at ggf.org and must contain: -Proposers Name: -Contact Information: -Affiliation: -Email address: -Phone number: -Have you organized sessions or workshops at past GGF events (if so, please elaborate)? -Title: -Session Type: -Proposed Duration: -Target or Expected audience (managers, users, technical experts or others - please specify): -Abstract (50 to 100 words describing the topic): -Synopsis (approx. 1000-3000 words describing session goals and outline, include a preliminary schedule if applicable): Tutorial Submissions should also include: -Prerequisite skills for participants: -Technology requirements for participants: The Community Council is also inviting your feedback and suggestions on the choice of topic areas for GridWorld Community Program Track Sessions. Your views, suggestions and needs will guide the Community Council to design a Community track program more responsive to the Grid community needs. All proposals, comments and questions should be sent to communities at ggf.org.
