Keep in mind that the FBI is at this point pretty much out there alone in demanding back doors (though they won't admit that that's what they really want).

Alone is no reason to ever cease putting the pressure on those sorts of people / entities. After all, they do it to you, courtesy of your taxes, and their whim, and your opponents, 24 x 7 x 365... no proposal needed.
