== clarifying memo == the spam that stems from karl’s various email addresses is _fake spam_ not _literal spam_. there is a lot more information on this though! it relates to his personal psychological experiences! the point of the [spam] label is to help people filter it out so they don’t have to slog through a bunch of random stuff. (unfortunately i came up with the label before realising how self-deprecating and projecting of disregard it was) anyway: the spam label is _not intended_ for use by AI bots or laborious human workers in analyzing and classifying email replies and conversations. in fact it would almost certainly corrupt said algorithms i’m afraid! the issue is it isn’t replies or conversations. it’s for filtering out for busy humans. it doesn’t relate to the topic or content of the list. normal lists used to have on-topic posts, off-topic posts, and other posts that were considered spam or trolling where people posted to the list without connection to the community. nowadays the space of on-topic, off-topic, and spam/trolling is a much more complex area! but i came to this list under the pretension that somehow, despite a lack of message signatures (e2e message signatures are the primary filter for something not being spam) it might be the real list with real cypherpunks on it, as if it was 2003. so, since my messages are not appropriate nor part of the conversations in such a list, i label them spam and such to cope with the frightening fact that i am sending them at all.
i have fake spam to deliver from a fake marketing department. the fake spam is below: fake spam corporation expresses our most heartfelt apologies for the unfortunate misunderstanding that we would consider a real thing, like the deeply valued and respected cypherpunks list, to be fake. this was a misunderstanding. we do not intend to relay that anything real is fake. i can assure you, our best people are fake working day and night on this incident, to resolve it as fast possible so you can be up and running with your fake spam before you even knew anything had happened. we have deployed a fake team of experts to the region who fake hard at work on it as we speak.
honestly i don’t know what message signatures are nowadays i went to a cryptoparty some years back and they didn’t even discuss email encryption! the blockchain tech i recently tried to forward had a message banner at the top of it saying to trust no devices at all encryption sounds fun! i bet at a hacker convention i could pick up what is normative nowadays. likely a cryptoparty too. or i could pester somebody here on this list, maybe still, if i’m lucky!
