You're behind the Blue Wall Your masters say you can’t be trusted with this information. Sorry, little lamb." Is a funny page of what users in 20 states and the majority of the world are presented with when trying to get the DEFCAD files. What is funny though, is that I will openly distribute all of the defcad files to everyone regardless of law. I am not afraid of any court order or any enforcement attempt. And to any prosecutors or judges, your efforts are a waste. I am a criminal. My crime, exercising my freedom of speech and taking a stand against censorship. I am calling on everyone whom ordered these files to upload them into the public domain and compare the hashes with each other for decentralized distributed integrity verification.

*yawn* Not like I can't make a zip gun 10x more effective than any such plastic bullshit on demand, with common hand tools. I also know a few machinists who would let me use their gear - but that way lies madness. 3D printing seems to have FINALLY gone out of fashion as "the hot new thing that changes everything," and good riddance. Sorry, can't make a whole industrial base with machines that can not reproduce /themselves/ because too many parts not polymer plastic. 3D print me a couple of semiconductor controller chips and some stepper motors, power supplies, ribbon cables and oh yeah, a computer to hook them up to - k thx. Srsly, have people gotten THAT much stupider in just one generation? Or is it an illusion produced by Social Media's ability to amplify the voices of stupidity at the expense of all others? :o/

Yes, with random pieces of pipe, and a nail and endcap you can make a single shot shotgun. But because I am in a crappy north-eastern state, I wonder if that sentence above classifies as "illegal information"? We live in an era where almost half of the states in the USA are (attempting to) censor the free flow of information. It is sad.

Granted, but what has changed? All I see in the case at hand is empty symbolic posturing by typically sleazy politicians: Low hanging fruit with no possible real world impact, therefore no potential blowback. In the immortal words of Clara Peller, "Where's the beef?" :o)
A SC ruling allowing DD information dissemination could also apply to all ITAR-restricted data, and greatly supporting the Bernstein vs U.S. decision. On Tue, Aug 28, 2018, 8:26 PM Steve Kinney <admin@pilobilus.net> wrote:

Threedee printers help in making things. They don't in themselves make anything very useful. Thus, actually useful gun making information would have lots of stuff about furnaces, grinding, heat treatment, and so on and so forth. It would consist of a great deal more than a program for a threedee printer.

Except for the barrel most/all the metal parts of a modern auto- or semi-automatic firearm can be manufactured using a combination of 3D printed plastic parts, "loss wax" molding from the plastic parts and heat treatment or ball shot hardening of the molded metal parts.
