[ot][journal?] eeg pursuit story
so um recently i was awarded social security. my father put years of work into this. i received money, and in my new negative-sum way i spent over a thousand dollars on a crowd supply open hardware EEG device with many many leads. dev from russia. i was wondering if i might receive it someday and visited the page. unfortunately the page is saying it is in pre-order because it was never manufactured. the last update is from march of last year i think. the war with ukraine was heavily associated with tension in the blog. basically it says they failed to supply the main chip. i don't know if that situation has changed. i may be running this month without using money for a device that does not exist. however, their specs were all open if the chip can be sourced.
blog was march 2022 https://www.crowdsupply.com/neuroidss/freeeeg32/updates/march-update
there are some eval boards available. mouser gives a lead time for a couple surface mount chips of about a year.
analog.com said i could buy the chip, asked me to specify my country when i asked to see inventory, and then removed the chip from the list when i selected united states.

i tried to register at the analog.com free chip samples website it didn't like me using an @gmail.com domain i am privileged to have an academic email address from an electronic engineering degree i started attempting to pursue, intending to work on public electromagnetic security i tried my academic address and it let me register. needs confirmation email. no confirmation email yet which is strange. i got a confirmation email to that address from another website recently, quite quickly.
O_O they have enough samples available to build a handful of the EEG headseats. they seem to want me to fill out a project application.
my order is in review! if it's accepted i'll be one of the few people in the world to have this chip delivered to them
https://matrix.to/#/!orFwLtOAmHWlvoSoQn%3Athe-apothecary.club/%24Bm7hRAdrlRD... some time ago i ordered a freeeeg32 on crowd supply (open source 32 channel brainwave reading equipment https://www.crowdsupply.com/neuroidss/freeeeg32 ). i waited and waited and eventually checked up on it. it turns out due to a chip shortage they were never produced. the fundraiser i contributed to was a year or two out of date and still waiting for this chip to be produced. (edited) i thought well maybe i’ll assemble it myself. i looked everywhere for this chip and even after two years every manufacturer had a stock of 0 with a year left estimated filling backorders. i eventually looked at free test samples, and i found fifty of them available as free samples. i filled out a request for a sample and they said they’d get back to me. pasting mistake. the paragraph before the photo was: i never heard back but i just found a package containing the chips i requested delivered to me. i just said i was building a hobby eeg device. it’s exciting to get these chips. first time i’ve ordered a sample.
next is the stmicroelectronics arm chip. it’s also hard to find. i found a number of sellers on alibaba advertising it, not sure if they have supply, left an order and message with one of them, they said they’d get back to me tomorrow.
i didn’t find this chip. the backorder time was shorter so i backordered it, but today received notice that the shipping date was changed to unknown. it would make sense to pursue a different chip, or more simply a different device model. i already have openbci hardware.
