It has convinced people, through conditioning and propaganda, to be dependent upon the state. When really it’s all just smoke and mirrors thrown up by an entrenched authority so that it can maintain its power and control over the people. And that’s the crux: the power dynamic. People should have power over the government, not the other way around. As Alan Moore said, “People shouldn’t be afraid of their government. Governments should be afraid of their people.” Indeed, self-rule is far superior to state-rule. The problem is, most people aren’t aware of it. Amidst this rampant statism stands the mass-man, the ignorant majority, the statist puppet, naïve to the political power swings surrounding him, dumb to the way things actually work. Sadly, statist puppets represent the majority of “we the people.” It’s not their fault, really. It’s simply how the majority of us were culturally conditioned to believe. We were all born into it, to a certain extent. But there comes a time when we must choose: become aware of how power works, or remain ignorant and powerless. Here are four signs you may be a statist puppet. 1. But you, being a statist puppet, don’t want to hear any of that “nonsense”. Cognitive dissonance kicks in and before you know it the comfortable, yet weak statist conditioning worms its way back in, whispering sweet lies into your ear, “The system works. Man-made laws are necessary. Obey!” You would rather be kissed with lies than slapped with truth, and so you just go through the statist motions of thinking, “It’s just the way things are. Who am I to question it?” Not realizing that, if you want to change the world you must first change yourself. We need taxes. Once a police force goes beyond defense, it then becomes overreaching, offensive, and immoral, which is a slippery slope into tyranny. And here you are, slipping down that slippery slope, unaware of the diabolical tyranny looming all around you. Having police is fine as long as there are checks and balances in place that prevent the police from having the power to force its entity’s will upon others who do not respect and or recognize the will of the entity. That is one of the best lists I've seen. The only problem I see is in #3. The government doesn't force taxation, it's just that most people are too afraid to challenge it. In theory, the state has to charge you with the crime of tax evasion, and then they have to find you guilty in a court of law. So deny it publicly or en masse, like as in history, and see how far they get in "forcing" you. To my knowledge, no one has tested this since before the last century. So I'll complement your list with this: 4 signs you may be giving too much power to the State: 1. You believe it is more powerful than you are. 2. You don't know much of the laws which define the state, 3. You depend mostly on mass media to know what's going on in your world. 4. Instead of wasting time 'discussing' here, people really should be creating piles of accounts on all the sheeples socials, and sending out the message / engaging... to their culinary forums, football, garage, home decor, computer gaming, career, volunteer, book clubs, etc, etc... all the boring places. Make the message relavant to whatever they're talking about. Theory is grand, but you *must* show them exactly how to get their daily life shit like work and play and food and house and car done, and the big infrastructure things like road / health / fire / "law enforcement" / "voting" done in stateless world. Else they look you crazy and write you off and kickban. You might be able to trigger a change window, but you're going to need them to ride their newfound ponies through it and settle that land.

Actually, I know a few in Australia have "tested" it, and one I assisted personally, but unfortunately he refused to handle/ properly speak to, the very (and foundational) issue that I raised - he ended up fundamentally just "nice asking the court to do the right thing because the ATO (Aus Tax Office) was mean and charging too much and anyway, I'm happy to pay, just not so much", which argument of course (and justifiably so, and rightly so) fell flat on its arse. It's only the "cypherpunks mindset" which can begin to step back, as you've done here, and look at the more fundamental issues as well as the (self) deceptions and "programming" of us humans in the very words that are used - shape the dialogue, control the people, as well we know. Fail to handle the underlying assumptions, and you will fail to have the Western courts support your claim for your human rights.
