we need the source designs for nvidia's drivers and/or hardware because they have a monopoly on the systems being used for current artificial intelligence

World is backwards when it calls for theft instead of startup competition in open markets to deliver better products without monopoly of the State as grantor of states-license and tax-thief at large. If such monopoly is unliked, then the State as source and enforcer of monopoly is thus the one to be shut down.

It's surprising to me to read this from grarpamp's email address. I don't expect grarpamp to say this. But I agree we need to come together to build more diverse and accessible solutions.

I behave like grarpamp's above change in tune after two years when I am e.g. horrifically abused by corporate goonies. https://forums.theregister.com/forum/all/2022/03/05/nvidia_stolen_certificat... So what happens now? So what happens if say an iMac 2009 (as an example) with Nvidia 9400GM Graphics/(Bootcamp) using either Nvidia 340.108 (Linux) or Nvidia 342.01 Windows drivers which are no longer supported but still work fine, are these machines going to the price paid by consumers for this fcuk up by Nvidia? More landfill crud, where end users are the innocent party in this. All seems very convenient, to sell a shitload of tech, off the back of this, for both MS and Nvidia. To MS/Nvidia, you better sort this out for all legacy drivers, not just current ones, anything else is unacceptable. Nvidia make 340.108 compatible with Linux 5.15 kernel while you're at it. And just to make the point regarding Windows 11, a TPM module and secure boot, doesn't save anyone from this type of malware where there is a compromised certificate. Plenty have made that point very vocal in the last few months. Windows, the utter trash - just keeps on giving. On Sat, 5 Mar 2022, Karl Semich wrote:

So what happens now?
Leaks of all the signing keys for embedded firmware, bootloaders, blobs, programming docs, etc... could be interesting for opensource, and a legal minefield, and obsoleted by updates writing new keys into roms and new hardware releases. Long term world still needs to be building open hardware to avoid/extinct that whole legacy mess, would be nice to say that that's what's "happening", but it still isn't, $Trillions in crypto, and not even started, not even a single subproject of it. #OpenFabs , #OpenHW , #OpenAudit , #FormalVerification , #CryptoCrowdFunding , #OpenTrust , ...

what, grancrap is defending the 'intelectual property' of nvidia-govcorp? And you find that surprising? Lawl. Poor grancrap doesn't even know how to play the 'good' cop, unlike you.
