70s. FFS, the _whole population_ was kicked off the island.

You do realize that it was the British that depopulated the islands, right?  The land had been purchased, there were about 1200 people displaced, and it happened 40 years ago.

In any case, that falls into the category of something that shouldn't have been done, at least not in so poor a way.
