ATM, you're correct. However,  there is no reason to assume most or all of these deficiencies can't be overcome. 

Personally, although scalability is an issue, I prefer non-litho approaches (e.g., electron beam lithography).

        Impressive. Now, that  can be done as long as you have access to very sophisticated equipment, raw waffers, et cetera. So although he works in a garage, his tools are not garage-level tools..but tools that can be acquired only if govcorp is willing to sell them to you.
