3 months state of emergency is in effect, meaning everyone supporting erdogan is allowed to do anything they like, and everyone opposing him is allowed to be done anything by the police (which is de facto situation for a few years but is now de jura). City center has been closed down for "democracy festival" where a stage is built with giant amplifiers, flags hung everywhere, etc. (you'd expect curfews and all in a state of emergency, right?) People pressuring the mayor for late night buses have been ignored and students protesting for cheaper transportation have been detained for years, and now mayor is giving free bus service any hour of day just so people can gather at the squares. Such hypocrisy... Erdogan has been planting followers of gulen in army and other bureaucratic positions for years, and now you can be blamed for supporting the coup just for sharing an old video of erdogan praising gulen. A massive purge took place, tens of thousands of bureaucrats, teachers, army personnel have been arrested, many institutons, schools and organizations have been closed down. We even fear to make jokes in whatsapp, rumor has it that policemen ask to see your phone too when they do a routine check at the city center.

(i say this as an atheist, living in turkey btw)
