Grim, omits NYT's and journalism's large benefits of smart devices spying by advertisers. And avoids spying corps generous support of NGOs and political office holders. Doesn't touch smart cities, kiosks, cryptographers, and fora like cypherpunks. Kinda down-dumbing blaming.
So roll outs galore of improved privacy protection apps, gadgets, TED talks, carefully redacted/hobbled to appear trustworthy.
As happens more often every day, the NYT is simply and blatantly wrong. The majority of Americans willingly traded liberty and security for coupon saver popups. Rr
