That's particularly true if you're getting cheap electronic hardware manufactured in China. Not because of security risks, but just because a lot of people who've gotten cheap stuff built over there have found that the local manufacturers often "improve" designs to make them more manufacturable or substitute parts for stuff they've got on hand.
