
i guess what is nice about nixos is not just that you can go `nix shell nixpkg#anythingiwantinmyenvironment` but also that it has the appearance of having a huge community of people focused on defending the integrity of people's software
it's nice to have software integrity defended (in real p2p community ways, not business-centralized ways that can be coerced by criminals and such much more easily due to centralization of choice and obscurity of function
so nixos isn't perfect but it has that inspiring demonstrating of great effort succeeded but like if all your software has built from source deterministically and all the binaries hashed and checked you can actually plug a device into your cpu and your ram and check that the content of loaded pages and behavior matches what has been checksummed elsewhere live -- like, not easily or compeltely, but it's _much_ closer
makes me wonder what i am missing out that's happened since nixos happened
