Yesterday marked the end of the 6th annual Black Maternal Health Week (BMHW), a time to center Black women’s experience and expertise across sexual, maternal, and reproductive health care, services, programs, and initiatives. The United States' maternal mortality crisis causes disproportionate harm to Black women and birthing people. As BMHW comes to a close, we must continue working to ensure better maternal and birth outcomes.
Take Action! Raise awareness about Black maternal health and the factors that contribute to this crisis including structural racism and implicit bias in the healthcare system. Support evidence-based solutions such as greater investment in doulas and mid-wives. Follow Black Mamas Matter Alliance, the founders of BMHW, on social media.
