I think of Snowden as victim of circumstances controlled by others, and very possibly an unwitting agent selected from a pool of candidates provided by the Insider Threat Program. Am I the only one who has noticed that every real-world consequence of The Snowden Affair has benefited his former employers?
Well, I certainly noticed that after Snowden's 'disclosures' the pentagon and friends got even more aggressive and the global american cyber police state more entrenched.
I don't know if Snowden was just a pawn in that game though. I guess it's possible.
Just because you're intelligent doesn't mean you can't be a 'useful idiot'.
By his own account, Snowden was a malcontent who was told by his office mates to shut up and ignore illegal activities. Whether he came to the attention of the Insider Threat Program or other CI programs is a question of how "good" they are at doing their jobs.
And you see? Snowden thought they were/are 'illegal activities'. That's what he gets for thinking. I'm SURE the finest lawyers the NSA could buy gave all sorts of citations for the absolute legality <http://auntieimperial.tumblr.com/post/72893522022> of programs like PRISM. They were/are too! I'm not seeing any criminal charges filed. That's why. There was no such illegality (or for that matter unconstitutionality... Snowden buys into the rich white men's rules) as Snowden *thought*. If you look at how the FBI sets up their Muslim Frames you can see they're all good at the job, but don't concern themselves with outcomes. Those frame jobs have a VERY hard time in courts with juries. Those frame jobs are just as much terrorism on the Muslim community of the US informing them to 'shut up and stay in line' as the use of Snowden (or John Kiriakou or Manning or...) as a posterchild for what happens if you don't 'shut up and stay in line' is terrorism of the intel community. Sort of reminds me... http://torrentking.eu/movie-1967/the-president-s-analyst-torrents/ Rr
