Greetings, Universe
formal request to not be unmade in axes of existence please do not unmake our timelines or potentials.
working on impacting this.
found one of other's navigation points:
the navigation point theory is an observation that you could, in a god-like manner, but as a normal living being, create a planet where, only on this planet, time travel existed. you'd do this by planning the entire consistent history of the planet, including all the thoughts and behaviors of the organisms on the planet. you could use antimatter, or you could do it with the creation and destruction of normal matter.
the planet would have a time gateway. residents of the planet could visit the time gateway, type in what time in the entire history of the planet they wanted to go to, and the history of the planet would show them having an experience of doing this. because the entire history of the planet and every resident is planned, and the creators of the planet have god-like capability regarding it, the gateway could simply destroy the time traveler, and when the time of their destination comes around, create them again.
now we'd like to imagine something more confidence-inducing for time travel than destruction and recreation of our personal matter, and there are options that are more complex for giving more confidence around that, but the historical timeline is identical if the time gateway simply destroys and creates timetravelers at their moments of departure and arrival, and this solution is much simpler. it shows clearly that timetravel can "exist" without needing any new physics, if you can completely and precisely plan the history of a system with accuracy.
One gimmick is that that's obvious. Everybody knows you can do that already. It doesn't surprise us that much that, given those assumptions, that result arises.
Some people are surprised by it. The reason it's obvious is that it's not usually considered time travel -- it's planning a display that is consistent as if there were time travel, and then acting out that display, like a story or a play or a movie. What's a little interesting is that it's physically identical to real time travel in almost every respect, _except_ for the function of the time gateway if it has a huge computer, incinerator to destroy time travelers, and synthetic birthing and consciousness construction system for producing their arrival. If we believe in a deterministic mind, it's physically identical to the point that departing time travelers remember their experience prior to leaving and have consciousness of performing the travel. Now, we can actually do that now. We can make such a system, if we simplify it enough. [... and to cut to the chase, it's not that interesting to do that. It's a very early step in the concept of time travel. Because time travel is most interesting if we retain the concepts of newness, discovery, and utility, as well as not breaking the meaning of our lives and choices.]
