Michael Brown did not shove the cigars back, nor request credit. He simply took them and roughed up the shopkeeper. Then he walked down the middle of the street, until he encountered a cop in a cop car. For no apparent reason, he confronted the cop, and then assaulted the cop, who after a remarkable display of wild and incompetent shooting, finally managed to kill his assailant. Maybe he thought the cop was going to charge him with stealing the cigars, but in fact the cop was at the time unaware that Michael Brown had just committed a crime.
