Recent postings have gotten me to thinking: If we wrote a easily portable UNIX program to decrypt DES in parallel across our many machines, how fast could we go?

I say do it as an experiment. That's how I always justified doing crazy stuff as a child. Besides, as a non-programmer, I am exempt from actually doing any work on the project.
