Look into Scramdisk. It works fine. Free, open source AFAIK. You can store & run your tools (eg email client) from the encrypted virtual partition easily, as well as store data.
Which only works on win9x, and no freeware updates exist for Win2k/XP/NT. i.e. worthless...
