It doesn't appear that they cracked it in the sense of cryptanalysis. it sounds more in the direction that they got the key.

It could be almost anything. Here's another scenario: government MIB's break into the targets house and illegally plant listening devices. In order to explain where they got the information in court, they say they got it by decrypting Blackberry traffic via a process that's secret for notional security purposes. Peter.
