No, but you do need to authenticate with the DVD-ROM drive. To do this, at least under Linux, you have to invoke the proper ioctls, and do a cryptographic authentication procedure with the drive. Code to do this is covered under "circumvention device" in the DMCA according to the 2600-MPAA case.
