Hi, My article in this week's issue of the SF Bay Guardian describes how the city of San Francisco has initiated two pilot projects for LED streetlights connected via a wireless mesh network. The test sites are determining how well the "smart" streetlights can transmit data from traffic cameras and remotely read electric meters; according to a Request For Proposals issued last June, future uses could potentially include anything from "street surveillance" to "gunshot monitoring" to "public information broadcasts." Thought it would be of interest to people on this list. http://www.sfbg.com/2013/01/15/spies-corner -- Unsubscribe, change to digest, or change password at: https://mailman.stanford.edu/mailman/listinfo/liberationtech ----- End forwarded message ----- -- Eugen* Leitl leitl http://leitl.org ______________________________________________________________ ICBM: 48.07100, 11.36820 http://www.ativel.com http://postbiota.org 8B29F6BE: 099D 78BA 2FD3 B014 B08A 7779 75B0 2443 8B29 F6BE
