i don’t know if the below article is reputable but it is where i found
this information.

it’s notable that how the “bigger” players handle conflicts around
things like AI data scraping could shape our future as these years go
by.

Elon Musk pointed out, do it with a dash of humor. (REUTERS)
After ChatGPT stole the AI thunder initially, followed by tools from
Google, Microsoft, and others, billionaire Elon Musk, who was
initially involved with OpenAI, has rolled out his own artificial
intelligence "system" that is available to a limited audience only.
Musk's xAI is looking to cover up all the space in the tech world and
do that rapidly as it is playing catch up with the rest of the tech
world. And for that, he has now unveiled xAI's Grok system. However,
even though he was involved in the development of ChatGPT, there is a
lot of catching up to do, especially as content creators are cracking
down on these AI bots scraping their data. Musk himself has objected
to other bots scraping X data.

The introduction of ChatGPT had left everyone stunned and a number of
other AI chatbots can now be seen on the web. Now, with Musk stepping
into this field, the competition is bound to heat up even further.

Grok is currently in its Beta phase. It will be available to all the
premium members of the X platform, after it comes out of the Beta
version. On Saturday, he posted, "As soon as it's out of early beta,
xAI's Grok system will be available to all X Premium+ subscribers".
However, when it will be made available to the public is not known
yet.

And since there is a link between Elon Musk and ChatGPT, what better
way to look at Grok than by comparing it with that chatbot?

Grok AI model vs ChatGPT

Elon Musk revealed that this AI model is different from other Large
language models. In a post on the X platform, Elon Musk shared that
Grok can access the X platform in real time. Musk shared, “Grok has
real-time access to info via the X platform, which is a massive
advantage over other models.”

However, over and on top of that, there is another massive difference
that Musk pointed out in his post. He added, "It's also based & loves
sarcasm. "

And then he added the proviso, "I have no idea who could have guided
it this way." Importantly, ChatGPT would have to be asked to respond
in a witty manner and would not do so on its own initiative.

One massive difference that Musk highlighted was about the kind of
questions that Grok will answer or choose not to. According to the
image posted by the Tesla tycoon, Grok does not accept sensitive
questions. In effect, it will refuse to answer illegal questions. In
the image, the AI chatbot was asked for the steps to make cocaine. The
chatbot rejected the request by adding sarcasm to the answer, which is
quite impressive.

Getting into the mood, Musk himself provided a screenshot as an
example of this humor.

ChatGPT is quite different from this AI model in other aspects too.
The initial version of this chatbot was not able to access the
internet in real time and it could also not access the latest
happenings as its reach was capped.

Grok pricing

So, what is the cost involved? xAI's Grok system will be accessible to
all X Premium subscribers. There are 2 X subscription plans available
at the moment. The pricey one is available at $16 per month. It offers
an ad-free experience. The plain vanilla subscription is priced at $3
per month.

Can you get it?

While there is no timeline for the lay public to get it, one user
requested access from Musk by saying, "How refreshing. Please grant me
access to this.

Notably, Musk responded by saying, "Ask, and you shall receive."

Elon Musk's AI venture, xAI was launched in July.

Know what’s happening in the AI universe today, November 4. (Pixabay)
The weekend is here, and some interesting stories from the world of
artificial intelligence have also come to the surface today, November
4. In the first development, a group of researchers are now looking at
AI to unlock the vocal and physical cues of a host of animals, with a
special emphasis on cats. Scientists believe that AI can help us
understand these creatures better. In other news, a Taiwanese American
model has accused that a leading designer has uploaded an AI-edited
image of her, in an attempt to make her appear white. The allegation
raises a question about the malicious usage of AI to promote
discrimination and racism.

AI to unlock cats' expressions

Researchers are looking at AI to decipher the significance of vocal
and physical cues exhibited by a variety of animals, a report by The
Guardian says. This means the next time you see a cat meow or growl,
you will know exactly what it is trying to say.

“We could use AI to teach us a lot about what animals are trying to
say to us,” Daniel Mills, a professor of veterinary behavioral
medicine at the University of Lincoln told The Guardian.

Earlier research by Mills has shown that cats exhibit a diverse range
of facial expressions during interactions with humans. Additionally,
recent findings from researchers have revealed that when interacting
with other cats, the feline species uses as many as 276 different
facial expressions. It remains to be seen how many of them AI can
decipher.

Model alleges AI used to make her appear white

Taiwanese American model Shereen Wu has accused fashion designer
Michael Costello of uploading a digitally altered runway photo to his
Instagram, where she appeared as a white woman, reports The Guardian.
Costello initially claimed the image was "fan art" from an unspecified
source but later took responsibility for sharing it, despite denying
any alterations.

“I didn't think before resharing it on my Instagram Stories as I was
on an emotional rollercoaster, resharing all that I was tagged in,”
the statement read.

Elon Musk says X premium subscribers will get early access to chatbot Grok

Elon Musk's AI startup, xAI, will begin offering services of its
chatbot Grok to a limited group of users soon, reports ANI. Once xAI
is out of the early beta phase, the Grok system will become accessible
to all X Premium subscribers, with the initial rollout targeted at a
specific user group.

Musk posted on X today, and said, “Grok has real-time access to info
via the 𝕏 platform, which is a massive advantage over other models.
It's also based & loves sarcasm. I have no idea who could have guided
it this way”.

A New Jersey school's students use AI to create deepfake images of classmate

An investigation is currently taking place at a New Jersey high school
where students reportedly utilized AI through photo editing apps to
generate fake nude images featuring their classmates, according to a
report by NBC New York. The inappropriate images, shared in group
texts over the summer, have raised concerns and led to an inquiry at
Westfield High School.

"I always worry about this. I have a daughter, she's beautiful, she's
my baby girl — I don't want something like that to happen to her,"
Rahat Hossain, a parent, told the news agency.

Union minister Piyush Goyal says AI can be a game-changer

Union Minister Piyush Goyal plans to visit San Francisco to explore
opportunities for enhancing economic relations with the US.
Additionally, he is set to take part in the Indo-Pacific Economic
Framework for Prosperity (IPEF) meeting scheduled for November 13-14
in San Francisco.

The minister also said that artificial intelligence (AI) can be a game
changer in the fight against poverty and taking services to the
remotest part of the country.

“AI is opening up new opportunities and India can take a quantum leap
in that,” he added.

Range anxiety? These electric vehicle chargers will come to you
A growing array of mobile charging startups could help put drivers at ease.
By:BLOOMBERG
Updated on: Nov 05 2023, 08:44 IST

ZiGGY is a robot charger that drivers will be able to book through an
app. It’s one of a number of unique solutions to help bring charging
to where it’s not. (EV Safe Charge)
The US has about 50,000 public charging stations for electric
vehicles, compared to an estimated 145,000 retail locations to
purchase fuel for a gas-powered car. That's the prime source of the
dreaded charging anxiety — the worry that you could run out of power
in the middle of a trip.

Not only are current and would-be EV drivers worried about whether
they can find charging, they're also concerned charging infrastructure
might not work. More than 20% of EV drivers in the US said they have
pulled up to a charging station and been unable to charge their
vehicle due to equipment malfunction, according to a study from J.D
Power, a data analytics company.

We are now on WhatsApp. Click to join.

A slew of startups are attempting to solve this problem by developing
mobile chargers, from clunky metal boxes on wheels to sleek robots
ready to prowl parking lots. While startups are seeing an initial wave
of interest from vehicle fleets — which often park where charging
infrastructure is unavailable — the technology may become more
widespread for everyday drivers in the future.

The charging network currently being built out across the US “is the
backbone” for drivers ”to feel confident that they can use an electric
vehicle to go long distances,” said Alan Jenn, assistant professor at
the Institute of Transportation Studies at the University of
California, Davis. “Mobile chargers offer a slightly different,
slightly nuanced sort of charging experience, and these things are
going to find a home somewhere.”

EV manufacturer Lightning eMotors has developed a mobile charger
called Lightning Mobile, which weighs a whopping 9,900 pounds (4,500
kilograms) and costs more than $300,000. Not exactly what one might
consider “portable,” the unit functions more like a generator that can
be rolled up anywhere charging infrastructure is lacking, including
remote locations, event spaces and fleet depots. Up to four vehicles
can plug in at a time.

The Lightning Mobile unit has been on the market for a few years, and
Lightning eMotors has seen a recent increase in interest and demand,
according to Nick Bettis, vice president of sales and marketing
operations, particularly on the West Coast where EVs are rapidly
spreading.

Solutions like these, which offer scaled charging off the grid, can
help drivers get through charging deserts — large stretches of road
with no public charging infrastructure — like the Appalachian Trail or
Route 66, according to Seth Leitman, an electric vehicle expert.

They can also be lifesavers when it comes to power outage scenarios
following natural disasters or grid blackouts, Bettis added.

Another emerging solution comes in the form of a rolling robot on
wheels named ZiGGY,  currently being developed by Los Angeles-based
startup EV Safe Charge. The robot is designed to operate in parking
lots and garages and can be reserved by a driver on an app. It will
then occupy a designated parking space and serve as a mobile charger
once the driver arrives. The startup recently won a contest held by
the city of Barcelona and is set to pilot ZiGGY in municipal parking
garages there.

This type of shareable mobile charger could be a game-changer for
urban spaces, like apartment buildings or airports where real estate
is at a premium, according to Leithman. While not currently
commercially available, Chief Executive Officer Caradoc Ehrenhalt said
the company is planning to deploy the chargers worldwide “as soon as
possible.”

Businesses that need charging anywhere from warehouses to event spaces
can rely on the Roadie Portable, created by Massachusetts-based
SparkCharge. This mobile charger fits right in the back of an EV. It
can supply up to 20 kilowatts of power and can provide up to 14 hours
of power with the additional battery units, according to the company.
(The units are customizable, which can affect the price. The company
didn't share specific pricing details.)

“These industries are increasingly integrating EVs into their
operations and require immediate access to charging,”  said Joshua
Aviv, SparkCharge's chief executive officer. “This ensures that EV
drivers can have their vehicles charged anytime, anywhere, and
ultimately accelerate the transition to a sustainable future.”

Even if you happen to find yourself deserted on the road without a
handy robot or mobile charger, one can come right to you.

AAA has rolled out a roadside assistance program in 24 cities, from
Denver to Nashville, to help EV drivers who run out of juice. The
company can dispatch mobile chargers, allowing stranded motorists to
charge their EV enough to make it to their destination or a proper
charger.

“We want to make our members feel comfortable that they can make that
switch to EVs and know that AAA will have their back,” said Greg
Bannon, director of automotive engineering research at AAA.

As public charging infrastructure continues to improve, however,
future demand for mobile chargers could shrink.

“One of the challenges that they have to overcome is by making it
mobile and having the extra battery unit, it can be pretty expensive,”
said Jenn. “Because of that, I don't think that these would
necessarily be super widespread solutions.”

Chargers on wheels simply serve as a bridge solution until EV drivers
feel confident in the public network, according to Arcady Sosinov,
chief executive officer of FreeWire Technologies, which specializes in
EV charging solutions.

However, companies making them can be successful if they find the
right applications for charging off the grid. Multi-unit dwellings
where building stationary charging infrastructure is likely to be
challenging to install could be a sweet spot, Jenn said.

“It really is kind of the Wild West for charging technology and
infrastructure right now,” he added. “Everyone is still learning a lot
about what works and what doesn't. I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss
anything yet.”

You may have heard a lot about the iconic Hubble Space Telescope and
the famous James Webb Space Telescope, but NASA has an array of other
telescopes that have rendered yeoman's service and one of them is the
Kepler Space Telescope. NASA's Kepler Space Telescope, which retired
in 2018, remains a source of scientific discovery as its data uncovers
exciting revelations. A recent study led by a team of researchers has
unveiled the existence of 7 scorching hot exoplanets orbiting a single
star. These planets receive more intense heat from their star, per
unit area, than any celestial body in our solar system.

Located within the Kepler-385 system, all these exoplanets are larger
than Earth but smaller than Neptune, marking a rare discovery of a
system with more than six confirmed planets or planet candidates. At
its core lies a star resembling our Sun, with a 10% larger size and 5%
higher temperature. The two inner planets, slightly larger than Earth,
are believed to be rocky and possibly possess thin atmospheres.

We are now on WhatsApp. Click to join.

In contrast, the remaining five planets are considerably larger,
boasting a radius twice that of Earth, and are expected to be
enveloped in dense atmospheres.

A Catalog Unlocking the Secrets of Exoplanets

The lead author of the study, Jack Lissauer, a research scientist at
NASA's Ames Research Center in California's Silicon Valley, emphasized
the significance of the newly assembled exoplanet catalog. This
comprehensive catalog offers precise information on Kepler planet
candidates and their properties, providing astronomers with valuable
data to explore the characteristics of exoplanets in greater depth.

The Kepler-385 system features a Sun-like star, slightly larger and
hotter than our own. The two inner planets, with sizes similar to
Earth, are likely rocky with the potential for thin atmospheres. In
contrast, the other five planets are significantly larger and expected
to possess thick atmospheres.

The quality of this new exoplanet catalog allowed researchers to
describe the Kepler-385 system in unprecedented detail. Unlike
previous catalogs that primarily focused on gauging the prevalence of
exoplanets around other stars, this catalog provides accurate data
about individual planetary systems, enabling discoveries like
Kepler-385.

Although Kepler Space Telescope's primary observations concluded in
2013, its extended mission, known as K2, continued until 2018.
